Alpine moves ahead with 100 South park plans

[url=http://www.heraldextra.com/news/local/north/alpine/article_9da5ba50-cdf0-51d8-a5e4-e588a987d3c6.html]ALPINE -- The saga of the 100 South Park in Alpine added a new chapter at Tuesday's City Council meeting when the council voted unanimously to negotiate a contract with Epic Engineering to have them prepare the final design and specifications for the park.[/url]

The proposed park at 100 South has been a hot topic in the community during the last year as the council discussed ideas of a splash pad as well as other features. Residents have complained in past meetings that they feared a skate park would bring increased crime to the city and that a splash pad would attract pedophiles.

Skate parks were not mentioned Tuesday, and only a handful of spectators were present at the meeting, where the only features discussed were an ice skating rink and a water feature.
Highland opened its splash pad the day of the meeting and fire chief Craig Carlisle already had his crew there for a minor accident.

And what do you think about the park planned for 100 South? Any thoughts about Skate parks or Splash pads?
