Springville FFA Chapter members attended the 81st Annual State FFA Convention April 15th-18th in Logan Utah. Members participated in Career Development Events, State delegate business, motivational convention sessions, and served as courtesy corps. representatives. Brayden Spencer, Nate Ahlborn, Steven Brinton, and Miles Beach participated in the Meats Evaluation Career Development Event. They had the opportunity to evaluate hanging carcasses and indentified various lamb, pork, and beef cuts. Christopher Cook prepared a public speech titled “Where have all the ag teachers gone?” and presented it to a panel of agriculturist. Chris was able to claim 3rd high individual in the Prepared Public Speaking Event. Kelsey Frampton participated in the Job Interview CDE and represented our chapter well by showing her application and resume writing skills in addition to competing in a live interview and phone interview. Kiley Merrill and Brayden Spencer represented Springville by serving as courtesy corp members and assisted in preparing the convention hall for the event. Tristyn Hunt exhibited an attractive chapter display including Utah data on genetic engineering. Her exhibit was titled. “Step up and stand out with genetic engineering” Katie Kitchen produced a chapter scrapbook with pictures and articles from throughout the year. She categorized these images as they applied to chapter development, leadership, and student relations. Her scrapbook met qualifications to be displayed and was included in the chapter records contest held in conjunction with the Secretaries book and Treasurers book. Kelsey Frampton created the Secretary book with all minutes from chapter officer meetings and committee business sessions while Mercedes Reinhardt produced a financial report of chapter expenses and incomes along with individual expense records for chapter members. Steven Brinton and Sierra Henry served as official chapter delegates and participated in delegate business sessions to discuss state and national FFA business. Christopher Cook was elected as the new Utah FFA Association Sentinel and will serve on the 2009-2010. State Officer Team. We would like to congratulate him and wish him luck in this endeavor. He will be serving with five other members from the state two of which are from the Nebo School District. We would like to again thank all those that participated in this event and for all those that made it possible to attend. A special thanks to Lisa Cook with the Utah FFA Alumni, Mr. Robins, Mr. Thorne, and Mr. Brown at Springville High School.
